Newborn Shoot in Action - by Emily Weaver Brown

I know you all have enjoyed watching sessions in action so here is a new video by a new (only to Go{4}Pro ) photographer, Emily Weaver Brown is a Seattle based photographer who shows just how much patience and waiting is involved in newborn photography.

I really love that Emily mentions that it's a lot more about rocking and waiting then it is shooting and playing, oh so true!! Newborn sessions take the longest (PERIOD). I have had a newborn session take up to 4 hours, and if it's the first baby, mom and dad are very cautious and nervous and you really need to respect that and take your time! I wrote a post  HERE for newborn tips and tricks that you might enjoy.

I love shooting newborns. It's a lot of work, but the end result is so worth it! Thank you to Emily for sharing this video with us!

  2. Thanks for delivering so many "Shoots in Action". I really enjoy these. The Newborn sessions look very rewarding even though they are a lot of work. I have to say, that photographer made me nervous standing over top of the baby holding a heavy camera without the strap around her neck to catch it just in case it slipped out her hands. But that's coming from a very protective mama where my baby spent the first 3 weeks of her life in the NICU. Safety first!

  3. This was so great to watch! I noticed the photographer was very hands-on, even with the rocking and soothing...are you this way too? I tend to involve the mom a lot, especially with the soothing part---what do you recommend?

  4. Carrie - I have become much more hands on as my confidence has grown! I've noticed that I'm trying to get to the end result (SLEEP!!) so I'm consistent with bouncing, soothing and waiting till hopefully it's just the right time to lay them down. Mom's often take much longer, get distracted and then start rushing it and prematurely setting baby down so we start the whole process over. I guess I just really feel out the mom first, but I find the more control I take the smoother things go.

  5. Thanks for sharing this one - it was awesome to watch. I do mostly weddings- have only done one newborn which was just three months ago and frankly it was pretty hectic.....
