New Go{4}Pro Flickr Topic} CONSTRUCTIVE criticism

I love that as photographers we can build a community and help each other grow! I thought it might be nice to offer a safe, less intimidation option for receiving cc. I know many of the forums can be brutal and since I know we have a lot of very new photographers reading Go{4}Pro and I thought this might be a nice alternative. You may be fresh on your first set of business cards or just honing already established skills, I created a Flickr group under Go{4}Pro for anyone who's ready for fresh opinions!

Feedback really is critical to growth and it gives you a fresh perspective to see how you can be even better! It can sting a little too because of course our work is a very personal thing, it's OUR ART WORK. And just like when you were 7 and someone made fun of your drawing so it can hurt just as bad as a grown up too!

I got ripped apart the first time I ever asked for CC and it took me a week to recover (at least). So please keep it honest (false compliments don't encourage growth) but also keep it kind and supportive. Whether we know it or not, we need each other!

And just for fun... Here is my favorite image from my very first paying session...

and my favorite image from my latest!

I'm actually feeling  a bit nervous that you won't see a difference. Oh well, I'll still put it out there. Go post a photo, offer some feedback and let's help one another improve!

  1. Guys! I am soooo sorry. I tried to be way ahead of the game and have all these posts done for while I was at WPPI and guess what I screwed up and forgot to add the pictures. Apparently that was an 'I'll get back to it' and never did. But I will put them in when I get back home...

WPPI is AWE.some!! As in I feel changed forever amazing. I'm so excited to get home and share what I have learned and to top that (cause my minimal opinion doesn't mean all that much if we're being real) so I am ecstatic and HONORED to say that some of the people who have CHANGED ME will be sharing here and I promise you will be inspired too. I can't wait!!! I pushed my flight back a day and will now be back Thursday night so as soon as I can ...

  2. I'm with you - I can't wait for YOU to get home and share what you learned! :-) And i'm really excited about this new flickr group, although i've ALWAYS shy'd away from flickr... hopefully I'll be able to get the hang of it.

  3. Are you kidding...the improvements are gorgeous! The clarity alone is amazing, but it's the skin tones that really make the difference between the two.

CC does make me so nervous and with a sigh of relief, I finally will openly admitted that I have shyed away from it big time. BUT, I'm ready...ready to break out of my shell, embrace what might sting for my good. And this Flickr group inspires me to carry that out. And if I don't stick to my word then I will force myself to write 100 times:

I will stop being a chicken...

I will stop being a chicken...

I will stop being a chicken...

    :)

  4. Thanks Kristen!! I'm excited to see what you post! I totally get shying away! Believe me I have too!! But that was another thing I learned at WPPI - if you want to be great you have to risk something and often all we really have to risk is our pride. Which in the grand scheme isn't that big although when you're putting your self on the chopping block... IT IS!!!!

  5. Leah-most definitely see a difference. I can still feel your enthusiasm in both but the most recent looks like you have really learned your camera and how to better get what you want in your photo. Thank you for putting this out there.
